Crawl Cay is known as the best destination for snorkeling in Bocas del Toro. Crawl cay is located inside Old Point, The Zapatillas, and other shallow reefs, which all serve as a wall against waves from the open ocean. The waters are calm and clear year round and the reefs are in shallow waters which is good for snorkeling. The colors and natural designs of the reef are bright and will surely fascinate.

En Crawl Cay there are two restaurants that sell food typical of Bocas del Toro. They have many types of fish and seafood normally acompanied with rice or patacones. The prices for the restaurants in Crawl Cay are usually between $8 and $15.

Please be thoughtful of our environment and do not stand on or touch the coral. The reef is very delicate and can be harmed easily. In many cases, boat captains will not issue fins at Crawl Cay. This is done to stop people from standing on the reefs.

One of the most visited tourist destinations in Bocas de Toro is certainly The Zapatillas Islands and it is no wonder why. These two small islands are located in the Nation Marine Park of Bastimentos and boast turquoise clear waters and white sand beaches. You can walk around each small island in a matter of minutes and Crawl Key is a short boat ride away to Snorkel and have lunch. This destination is a must see during your visit to Bocas del Toro!

Red Frog beach is the most popular beach in the islands of Bocas del Toro because of its location and beauty. One can surf gorgeous waves, snorkel above the coral reef, lie on the white sand, take a night hike, or just stroll through the surf. Other beaches on Bastimentos include: Wizard Beach, Turtle Beach, Cayman Beach (and coves) and Playa Larga.

Spotting exotic wildlife on Red Frog Beach and the other beaches on Bastimentos is almost guaranteed. Four of the world’s eight sea turtle species nest on Red Frog Beach. This Panama Beach is unique because of the lush rainforest that fringes the sandy Caribbean beach. The beach is accessed by arriving from Bocas Town via 10 minute water taxi ride and then a 15 minutes walk across from the back to the front of the island. You may spot a three-toed sloth as you walk across the island, a monkey, or a small red frog for which Red Beach derives its name.

For being among the most famous beaches in Panama, Red Frog Beach is only .75 miles wide. At each end of this beach there is a rock-peninsula outcropping. At the east end of the beach there is a hidden boardwalk to a pier at the end of the peninsula. The view from this boardwalk called “the point” is absolutely breathtaking with waves splashing all around and white foam dripping from the rock outcroppings. From this view point one can look back down at Red Frog Beach and see the beautiful frame of the rainforest that makes this Panama Beach so secluded and different that a typical beach.

Red Frog also has a new Beach Bar and lounge area called Punta Lava along with an activity center that includes surf boards, paddleboards, kayaks & boogie boards.

Starfish Beach sits on the inside point of Isla Colon where the water is calm, clear, and full of starfish. It is a great place to pass the afternoon and boats can pull straight up to the shore to drop you off. You can also access starfish beach by car by going to Bocas del Drago and walking 15 minutes around the point. Bocas del Drago also has a great caribbean restaurant called Yarisnori which we strongly recommend.

Close by attractions include Bocas del Drago and Bird Island.

In the mornings and evenings sandflies, locally called chitras, can be bothersome at Starfish. Make sure to bring bug spray along with your sunscreen. The best time to visit is the middle of a sunny day.
